The United States has 5% of the world population and 23% of the incarcerated people.

The general consensus is that America is the land of the brave and the free. The truth is that the United States has 5% of the world population and 23% of the incarcerated people. (from: The Hour With George Stromolopolous on CBC 2011-03-08). They champion the death penalty but they have a high per capita murder rate than most other countries. The only country that jails more people is China. For all its chest-thumping and back-patting, America does not put much value on life. Then they wonder why the world is going wrong. They have 10 times the number of guns per capita than Canadians. Their guns kill 28 family or friends for every one intruder that is killed.

I just can't understand why a person ever feels the need to kill another person. Life is a special experience and it is insane for people to kill. I especially abhor the Islamic fundamentalists' disregard for the value of life; they are an insult to Islam, all good people, and even Allah "himself/herself."
